Well it wasn’t quite the weekend I was hoping for in Townsville! I just couldn’t catch a break! Friday’s practice sessions didn’t start off too bad, I was mostly just playing around with the set-up of the car and trying to get it right. Both sessions were also quite wet, which made it a little difficult to get a good lap in. I finished up P11 for the first session and managed to find a bit more speed for practice two and finished up 9th.
Come Saturday, I qualified 13th and was able to pick up a few spots in race 1 for what was meant to be a 12-lap race and crossed the line in 10th. I was pretty happy to finish with a top 10 finish as race 1 saw us only able to get two full race laps in, as there were Safety Cars for majority of the session. Race 2 did not go to plan, I got up to 7th, but unfortunately was hit from behind which caused the exhaust to come off. A lap later my wheel and the exhaust touched, which made me spin into the wall and ended my race!
It was a big night for the crew on Saturday, as they were busy repairing the car, so a big thanks to everyone who helped and managed to get the car back together and ready for Sunday’s last race!
After Saturday’s incident, Sunday’s race 3 saw me start from 28th. I managed to get a good start and by lap 3 I was up to P20. Unfortunately though, a car had stopped on track and I hit their back wheel and bent my steering, which made the car difficult to drive. Ultimately, I was fighting for the remainder of the race with bent steering and couldn’t really do much from where I was. P23 was all I could manage.
Onwards and upwards to Bathurst, October 10 – 13th.
