Jay Robotham – TA2 Asia – Bira Wrap Up

I had quite another successful weekend in the TA2 Asia Series at Bira Race Circuit. I was really looking forward to heading back there after having tested there last year, so I was interested to see how it was going to play out this round.

Through practice on Friday, we weren’t completely satisfied with the car and we didn’t get many laps in. We played a bit with the set up and threw new tyres on for qualifying. Paul completed the first qualifying session and put it on pole which was awesome! I was able to bring it home in P2 for the second qualifying session, which I was pretty happy with. With the likes of fellow Aussie, Steve Owen on the grid, I knew I had to really focus and push hard – so it was great both Paul and I were able to set the cars up on the front row of the grid for the two races.

Saturday’s race 1, Paul started from pole and was able to continue that momentum right through to the halfway mark. When he came into the pits to hand the car over, because of our last win at Bangsaen, we had extra pit time allotted to our pit stop which resulted in myself coming out last. I was able to dig hard though and fought my way through the field and managed to cross the line in third. It was awesome to get another podium finish!

Sunday’s race 2, I started from P2. It wasn’t long before a Safety Car was issued which ultimately pushed the field closer together, where I was rolling around in third. When it came time to pit, due to the longer stops; Paul came out in P5 and 20 seconds behind the leader. He did a mega job though and was able to bring it home in second, only one second behind the leader. It was an awesome effort all weekend from Paul and the crew and I can’t thank them all enough.

We we’re able to bag some more points and extend our lead in the Championship standings as we head to the final round at Buriram, Chang International Circuit, October 26 – 27.
