Over all, we had a pretty decent weekend at Sandown. I qualified 9th on Saturday, which I was happy with. I managed to break the top ten and it was certainly a step forward compared to my qualifying sessions at the last couple of rounds.
Race 1 I stayed out of trouble and managed to cross the line in 7th. Race 2 was a bit of a shocker for us however. I’ve never driven the car in the wet before, so I was kind of getting on the gas too early and wheel spinning it up and therefore lost a bit of time. I dropped back a few positions and finished up P13, which is where I would start for Sunday’s final race.
Race 3 was pretty hectic, we had two safety cars and I managed to bring it home in 7th. We only had one damaged panel, which was a bonus – not like some of the other cars in the field, so it’s always good to be able to finish the weekend up with as little damage as possible.
Racing in the wet was certainly an eye opener for me, so I’ll be going back and having a look at the data and seeing where I can improve for next time!
A huge thanks to all the crew at Ashley Seward Motorsport for giving me a mega car all weekend and also to all of my sponsors for your support!
I’m still sitting fifth in the Championship standings – which I’m really happy with and I’ll be working hard to chip away at the points come the next round!
Next stop is Bathurst; we still have a few things to sort before we can confirm if we’re racing but hopefully we will know in the coming days.
