Finally! The wait is over and the first round of the Toyota 86 Series is under way this weekend. It’s been a very busy break since I raced last year in Newcastle, so I can’t wait to see all the hard work come together when I step behind the wheel.
I’ve been training really hard in the off-season and in particular with Josh Webb from 1% Performance. He’s really upped the training, including some high intense conditioning training as well as some altitude training and I’m feeling really good.
I’ve just come back from Sydney, doing some driver training too, which has been real important, ensuring that I still gain time behind the wheel during the off-season. So I’m feeling really confident.
Last year at Phillip Island I had a fantastic weekend in my debut. I didn’t finish lower than 7thand even scored my first podium, so I’ll certainly be looking to push hard and mirror those results, if not better!
I quite like the Phillip Island circuit, it’s fast flowing with plenty of passing opportunities and is a bit more forgiving when you make a mistake – unlike a street circuit. I’ve always had good results at this track, so I’m hoping I can have another successful weekend this weekend!
I hit the track for practice 1 on Friday 12thApril, 11:00am.
