Jay Robotham gives us his thoughts ahead of the first round of the TA2 Asia Series

This weekend will see young Jay Robotham debut in his first round of the TA2 Asia Series at Sepang International Circuit, 19 – 21stApril. Having just competed at Phillip Island last weekend for the first round of the Toyota 86 Series, there is certainly no rest for the wicked.

“I’ve just come out of my Toyota 86 and pretty much went from Phillip Island in Victoria, straight to the airport, ready for this weekend in Malaysia,” exclaimed Robotham.

“I’m really excited to jump into the Ford Mustang this weekend for the TA2 Asia Racing Series. It’ll certainly be a little different to my 86!

“I have driven the Mustang on two different occasions for test days, so I can’t wait to familiarize myself with the car before I then hit the track for the first race!”

The Series allow teams an equal winning opportunity as they all run identical space-framed muscle cars, which are all powered by the same 6.2L V8 engine with 525HP, equipped with 6-speed sequential gearboxes and paddle shifts.

This year will also see the TA2 Asia Series host a 2-driver setup, where Robotham will share the seat with Gaby Dela Merced, who will be the first female driver in the Series.

“Obviously sharing the seat is a little out of my comfort zone and something that I haven’t really done before, but I’m really looking forward to it. There will also be pit stop changes as well, so it should be a lot of fun,” admits the 16-year old.

“Gaby has a wealth of knowledge and experience under her belt and I’m honored to be joining forces with her for the 2019 season.”

The weekend’s track schedule will see the Tecpro Idemitsu Racing backed Mustang hit the track for practice sessions on Friday 19thApril, before qualifying and a race on Saturday 20thApril and Sunday 21stApril to conclude the weekend with the final race.
