Jay Robotham – Bathurst Wrap Up – Toyota 86 Series

It was my first time on The Mountain and I’m super pleased with my overall results! After last year’s age dispensation, I was determined to put my head down and have a great weekend.

Thursday’s first practice session, it took me a bit to get used to the track and map out all of my markers but come the second practice session; my confidence had boosted, and I was able to settle into P9.

Friday was an important day with qualifying, especially since we had only 6-laps for the races. So, I wanted to make sure that I gave myself a good head start and qualify up the pointy end. I was pretty stoked to have come away with sixth, however I was then issued a penalty as I passed under a red flag which ultimately put me in last position ahead of Race 1. It was a very silly error on my behalf, but I have learnt!

From starting last, in just 6-laps I was able to fight my way through the pack and brought it home in 15thwhich is where I would start for Race 2. I had started to settle into my own groove and knew I had my work cut out for the second race. I managed to cross the line in sixth, which I was absolutely stoked with.

Sunday’s Race 3 was tough – I was up with the front runners but found it hard to pass, so P5 was all I could manage. I have to say, I was still stoked with that though! Not a bad effort for my first outing on The Mountain!

Bit of a break now, before I jump back in for Round 4 at Sandown 8-10 November!

Hope to see you there!
